Dave Tough, born April 26, 1907
Dave Tough was a drummer and an early associate of the infamous young Austin High Gang. He has been described by his friends and fellow musicians as being quite the intellectual and having a variety of interests other than music, such as poetry and philosophy. In the music world, he has been described as one of the most important drummers of the Chicago scene. Although he wasn’t a bebop drummer, he had a great admiration for bebop and was a fan of Max Roach’s playing.
Dave Tough died on December 9, 1948 at age 41 from cerebral trauma.
